What is Qi, and how do you discover it? Experience your Qi by understanding its underlying concept through Chinese philosophy and develop awareness of it through simple exercises of Qigong – an art that has survived thousands of years – a deep form of self-awareness and breathing techniques still practiced in martial arts and by Buddhist monks.
What is Qi, and how do you discover it? Qi or “life force” refers to the driving force behind everything, from a universal to microscopic scale. It finds its expression through different cultures, such as Prana (India), Pneuma (ancient Greek), Axé (Afro-Brazilian), Spirit (Indigenous groups), through science it is described as the vibrational quality of all things (at an atomic level). In Chinese culture, it literally translates into the “breath” which brings things to life. It is cultivated at different levels, from harnessing positive Qi in the environment through Feng Shui (link), to addressing the Qi within our body through Traditional Chinese Medicine through acupuncture (link).
How do you discover Qi within yourself and how do you cultivate it for your wellbeing…and why?
Qigong means Qi cultivation. There are different forms of Qigong. Some forms include physical movement while others focus on breath and visualization. However, through using different methods, all forms of Qigong focus on creating awareness of the flow of Qi with the goal of optimizing its free flow and undoing any possible blockages in the meridian system (our inner channels through which Qi travels). Wellbeing refers to achieving a balanced (and harmonious) mind, heart (emotions), and body with the potential of many benefits such as ameliorating chronic pain, vitality, energized and clarity of mind, etc.
Experience your Qi by understanding its underlying concept through Chinese philosophy and develop awareness of it through simple exercises of Qigong – an art that has survived thousands of years – a deep form of self-awareness and breathing techniques still practiced in martial arts and by Buddhist monks. These techniques were developed to alter and control the movement of qi within the body with the aim to achieve physical longevity and strength of the mind and soul.
This experience is comprised of a meeting with Master Maggie, where she will take you step by step on discovering or deepening your knowledge of Qi. She will encourage you to experiment and start to feel Qi by becoming aware of sensations of flowing energy within our body. Master Maggie will also introduce breathing exercises that can help cultivate Qi. Throughout the session Master Maggie will continue to share some of her learnings on the topic, encourage questions and discussions.
